Hedgerow Heroes

Hedgerows are the vital stitching in the patchwork of the local countryside. Not only are they beautiful, with shifting seasonal colours, but they also provide homes and corridors for wildlife. And all the while they help tackle the climate crisis by capturing carbon.

At CPRE Avon and Bristol we have an ambition to create/restore 10km hedgerow by CPRE’s centenary year in 2026. Over the last 2 years we have achieved 3km of our target, which wouldn’t have been possible without the fantastic work of volunteers. This winter our Hedgerow Heroes project continues to grow bigger and better, now taking place across the counties of South Gloucestershire, Bath and North East Somerset, and North Somerset.

Volunteer with Hedgerow Heroes

We will be running more hedgelaying and hedge planting activities this autumn and winter, starting in October 2024.

No previous experience is required to get involved with our activities. You are welcome to join any of our sessions, whether you can only commit to a one-off day or weekly throughout the season! We will be planting and gapping up hedgerows in addition to hedgelaying.

Tools, protective equipment and training are provided. Before you come out for the first time, we ask that you register as a volunteer via the link below. After registering, you will be added to the mailing list and we will keep you updated with upcoming volunteer opportunities. You can see all upcoming activities on our Eventbrite, which is updated regularly.
